After about a year’s contribution to MPAH, MMB ’89 shifted focus to the Dining Hall Project. The reason for the decision was partly due to the fact that, we learned of the deterioration of the 600 seating capacity dining hall from a comprehensive report put together by the ‘92-year group. The report disclosed that, the failing dining hall structure posed a potential health risk to the student’s population. As a result, the ’92-year group took the initiative to renovate the dining hall and prevent further deterioration. Due to the urgency, MMB ’89 and their 89/90 diaspora counterpart signed on to this project.
The renovation project was divided into three phases. The electrical wiring, the kitchen and the main dining hall. There were bare wires, broken switches and inadequate power points to meet the growing power demand. The sinks and cooking wares were old, cracked and broken. The staff changing room was a mess and the drainage system was in a bad shape. The main dining hall terrazzo was worn out, broken louvre blades and termites had eaten the dining hall wooden furniture. Visit this link https://www.kstsclass92.com/dhall-project/ to learn about the full range of the problems about the dining hall, which prompted the renovation.
Phase I of the project was estimated at GhS 38, 000, phase II, GhS 87,000 and phase III, GhS 30, 000. When MMB ’89 joined the dining hall project, phase I was already completed. We contributed towards phases II and III.
